Prof. Dr. Mehmet Akif Karan is an academic specialising in internal medicine and geriatrics.
Education
He graduated from the Istanbul Faculty of Medicine in 1984 and completed his specialist training in internal medicine at the Department of Internal Medicine of the Istanbul Faculty of Medicine between 1986 and 1990.
Career
In 2000 he was assigned to establish the Division of Geriatrics within the Department of Internal Medicine at the Istanbul Faculty of Medicine. From 2010 to 2015 he served as chief physician of the Istanbul Faculty of Medicine Hospital. He has continued his work as a faculty member in the Division of Geriatrics.
Areas of expertise
His main areas of work are the health problems of an ageing population, chronic diseases in later life and the management of multimorbidity.
